This article describes how to manage and expand storage space in the File Drive environment. It explains that Seafile only displays the storage space of current files and ignores deleted items. Therefore, METANET has implemented an additional display that updates every five minutes. Storage space can be expanded at any time, and costs can be calculated via a configurator on the METANET website. The article also explains how to permanently delete files and libraries, including running a cleanup process using the Garbage Collector to permanently remove deleted data.

General Information
It can happen that the storage space of your File Drive environment is running low. In this case, continued operation is at risk and action is required.
This article describes the available cleanup options and how to perform a possible expansion.

Unfortunately, Seafile only shows the used storage space of all current files and folders under "System Administration - Info - Used Storage." Versions of files as well as deleted libraries and items in the recycle bin are not considered here. Therefore, METANET has implemented an additional display that updates every 5 minutes.

The storage space of your File Drive environment can be expanded at any time.

Permanently Delete Files Within a Library
As described, files in the recycle bin remain available until permanently deleted. The associated versions are already removed when the file is deleted. The deleted files are removed after the versioning period expires. Additionally, the recycle bin can be manually emptied by the user.
For permanent deletion, a final cleanup process (Garbage Collector, see below) must be executed, which permanently removes the data from the environment.
Permanently Remove Deleted Libraries
Libraries deleted by users or the administrator remain available in the administrator's recycle bin for another 30 days. During this period, storage space is still required for these libraries. Deleted libraries can be manually deleted one by one(1) by the administrator under "System Administration - Libraries - Recycle Bin." There is also a function(2) available to remove all deleted libraries.
A final cleanup process (Garbage Collector, see below) must be executed, which permanently removes the data from the environment.
Cleanup by Adjusting Versioning Periods
File Drive offers a file versioning feature. If this is set to keep many versions in the system, it can generate high storage space demand.
On the other hand, it must be noted that METANET does not perform backups of customer data, so versioning acts as a kind of data backup or a way to revert to older versions of files and folders.
As described in the article above, the period can be adjusted per library. After adjusting the period, previously created versions are not automatically deleted.
A final cleanup process (Garbage Collector, see below) must be executed, which permanently removes the data from the environment.
Cleanup Process - Garbage Collector
To permanently remove deleted data from the File Drive environment, a cleanup process called the Garbage Collector must be executed. This works differently depending on the version.
