This article describes how to enable multi-factor authentication for Plesk access using the Google Authenticator app. This security measure requires, in addition to username and password, an additional dynamic code that changes regularly. Requirements include a mobile device with the app and correct system time. Activation is done in the Plesk interface by scanning a barcode. During login, after entering the password, a verification code is requested. If the code is forgotten, two-factor authentication can be disabled.

General Information
With multi-factor authentication using the Google Authenticator application, you have the option to further secure your Plesk access. If an unauthorized person steals your password, your mobile phone would also be required to access the account.
- Factor: Username and password
- Factor: Additional dynamically generated code (viewable via app, changes regularly)

Alternatively, you can of course use another app such as Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.
Activation
In the Plesk interface, you have the option to enable multi-factor authentication.
This is done via the following menu item:
Enable "Multi-Factor Authentication." A barcode will now be displayed.
| Be sure to print the page with the displayed barcode and keep it in a safe place. This allows recovery/reactivation of access in case of a smartphone change. |
Then open the previously installed "Authenticator" application on your mobile device and select the "+" sign. You can now scan the barcode and the connection will be set up automatically.

Now enter the displayed code under "Verification Code" and confirm with "OK."
The activation is now complete.
Logging into the Plesk Interface
At the next login, after entering the previously used password, a second step will prompt you to enter the verification code. Read the six-digit code from the Authenticator app and enter it in the designated field.
