This article describes the roles and responsibilities of contract partners, domain holders, and technical contacts in managing domains through METANET. Contract partners can register and manage domains, serve as billing contacts, and have administrative authority. Domain holders can manage their domains themselves or delegate management to third parties. Technical contacts have access to domain management to edit nameserver entries. All roles must respect the rights and claims of third parties.
Note: A contact ID can be assigned different user roles for different domains. With the respective access, all relevant domains are displayed or managed.
A contract partner:
- is a customer of METANET and has access to the customer portal my.metanet.ch
- can register or manage their own domains (= also domain holder) as well as domains for third parties (= different domain holder)
- is by default the billing contact for domains in their account (can be adjusted upon notification)
- has administrative authority for domains in their account (nameserver, tech contact, cancellation, transfer code)
- must respect the rights and claims of third parties when acting on their behalf
- can have contacts (holders or tech) in their account receive access data for domain management
A domain holder:
- is either a METANET customer themselves (= also contract partner) or largely delegates the management of their domains to a third party (= different contract partner)
- has access to domain management, if provided by the contract partner, to manage their own domains (nameserver, tech contact)
- should primarily contact the contract partner for inquiries or requests concerning their own domains
- can assert their rights regarding their own domains at METANET if they want to change the contract partner or if the contract partner does not fulfill their obligations
- can have tech contacts in their account receive access data for domain management
A technical contact:
- has access to domain management, if provided by the contract partner or domain holder, to manage nameserver entries for domains for which they are registered as the tech contact.
