The DNS management in METANET's customer portal enables autonomous editing of DNS records for registered domains. Users can create various resource records such as A, AAAA, MX, CAA, CNAME, SRV, TXT, and NS, and adjust the TTL per zone. Changes can be scheduled for a specific time, and templates are available to simplify the process. An import function allows transferring DNS zones in BIND/AXFR format. Management is done via my.metanet.ch, where nameservers can also be switched automatically. The platform also offers functions for restoring and exporting DNS zones.

Resource Records and TTL
The following record types (resource records) can be created:
A, AAAA, MX, CAA, CNAME, SRV, TXT, NS (NS delegation for subdomains)
Additionally, the global TTL per zone and the hostmaster contact can be adjusted. - Time-dependent Changes / Scheduled Saving
Each change can be activated at a specific time if desired. - Templates
Templates serve to simplify the creation of a DNS zone based on common user scenarios. -
Restoration
The last previously active DNS zone can be restored. - Import
The import function allows easy transfer of a complete DNS zone from external systems as well as from our own DNS platforms (ns.ch-meta.net) and DNS Cloud (ch.ch-inter.net). Zones must be in BIND/AXFR format. -
Export
The stored DNS zone can be exported at any time in BIND/AXFR format (text format).
Access
DNS zone management is accessible via my.metanet.ch. (Forgot password?) You can switch at the domain level either directly in the overview or first go to the domain overview list:
At the domain level, you can now switch to "DNS Management":
Basics
General handling
You can either use a template for your DNS zone or directly create new entries.
Use the templates for common internal or external services. More details can be found under "Feature, Templates".
| It is generally important to know that changes and additions are only applied once the zone definition has been saved. Multiple simultaneous changes can thus be saved in a batch. This relieves the infrastructure and ensures stable operation, as repeated service reloads are not necessary. However, once the zone is saved, the entries become active within a few seconds and can be queried directly. |
Adjustments to the DNS zone are prominently highlighted to keep track of differences:
Authoritative Nameservers
The following nameservers are responsible for the environment and must be set for the domain:
| HOST | IPv4 | IPv6 |
| ch.pro.io | 80.74.143.169 | 2a00:1128:1:1::143:169 |
| nl.pro.io | 151.80.197.88 | 2001:41d0:8:1c8d:: |
| p.dnh.net | 94.126.16.58 | 2a00:1128:0:17::58 |
Automatic Switching
If the nameservers for the domain are not yet set, a corresponding message will be displayed. You can use the "Switch Automatically Now" function to have the switch or entry performed automatically:
You will be notified when a switch is about to take place:
Feature: Create/Edit Entry
After initial setup, you will see the DNS zone with the 3 standard NS entries (ch/nl.pro.io/p.dnh.net). These are not editable as they are essential for smooth operation. To add additional entries, select the entry type (e.g., MX) and click "Add". Then the corresponding input form with the required data for each entry type will appear.
Above, you can also adjust the TTL of the zone and the responsible technical contact. For example, the contact will be informed if an automatic save was not successful.
You can edit existing entries at any time using the "Edit" function:
Feature: Templates
Templates simplify the addition of DNS entries for known services. For example, you can add the numerous DNS entries for Office 365 or Google Gmail in a very short time.
Currently, templates are available for the following services:
| METANET Services | Other Providers |
| Business Mail | Google Gmail / G Suite |
| MXFilter | Microsoft Office365 |
| Website Builder | Jimdo |
| Squarespace | |
| Weebly |
Additionally, the following global templates are available:
| Name | Purpose |
| Standard | This template adds A/AAAA (Web) and MX (Mail) entries to a specific host/target server. |
| Mail Protection Mail SPF Entry | This template adds the generic METANET SPF entry. |
Feature: "Save for Later ..."
By default, changes are executed immediately when clicking "Save Now". However, it is also possible to schedule recorded changes for any future time. This allows, for example, changes to mail server configurations (MX records) to be made at night and/or on weekends without additional manual intervention.
After setting the scheduled time, the pending adjustment is saved and will be executed at the desired time. Cancellation of the scheduled change is possible at any time:
