This article describes various aspects of managing email servers and security. It explains how to customize the destination mail server by logging into the web-based administration and changing the IP configuration. It also covers the management of blacklists and whitelists, allowing IP addresses and domains to be blocked or allowed. The firewall configuration is explained, including the source IP addresses of the MXFilter systems. Furthermore, it addresses the issue of long wait times in the message log and the need for aggregation of statistics. Finally, it discusses reporting (non-)spam to Barracuda to improve the MXFilter's learning.

Customize Destination Mail Server
New System
1. Log in to the web-based administration at https://webmx01.sui-inter.net with your credentials
2. Click on "Manage Domain" for the desired domain
3. Click on "Basic" -> "IP Configuration" and enter the address of the desired destination server under "Destination Server." Then simply save the setting by clicking "Save"
If more than one server is entered, the type of separator determines how forwarding to the servers is prioritized:
- Using a comma (",") or semicolon (";") as a separator distributes emails evenly across the destination servers.
To distribute the load unevenly, you can enter a server multiple times. - Using a space (" ") as a separator always contacts the first server in the list. If this server is unavailable, the next server in line is contacted.
This setup is useful if you operate a primary mail server and one or more backup mail servers.

Entering IP Addresses and Network Ranges
At the domain level, individual IP addresses or entire networks can be allowed or blocked.
Navigate to "BLOCK/ALLOW" -> "IP Filter" and enter the corresponding addresses.
The comment field helps you document the entries:
Entering Email Addresses and Email Domains
Individual email addresses or entire domains can be blocked or allowed both globally for the entire domain and individually by single mail users.
At the domain level, navigate to "BLOCK/ALLOW" -> "Sender Filter" for management.
As a mail user, you can create entries under "SETTINGS" -> "Whitelist / Blocklist."
The interface looks the same in each case:
Using the "Batch Editing" function, you can conveniently create multiple entries:
Firewall Configuration
If you want to allow your mail server only for the MXFilter systems, below are the source IP addresses of our MXFilter systems:
| Host | IPv4 | IPv6 |
| mx01.sui-inter.net | 80.74.143.111 |
2a00:1128:0:143::111 |
| mx02.sui-inter.net | 80.74.144.62 | 2a00:1128:0:144::62 |
| mx03.sui-inter.net | 80.74.146.163 | 2a00:1128:0:146::163 |
Long Wait Time in Message Log
Displaying the message log takes comparatively long for domains with few messages. This is because the MX Filter always tries to display the entered number of messages. Therefore, very large log volumes sometimes need to be searched until enough messages are found.
For domains with low mail volume, it helps to enter a smaller value under "Settings" -> "Number of messages per page" in the log display
Statistics
Unlike the message log, there is no option to view statistics in an aggregated way. The dashboard display therefore always shows only the statistics for the device you are logged into.
If you require an overall view, you must log in to all three MXFilters and add the values together.
Send (Non-)Spam Report to Barracuda
It can happen that a message marked or blocked as spam is not spam, or vice versa. It is important to note that technical reasons often underlie the classification as spam. For example, a message from a desired sender with desired content may technically be correctly marked or rejected as spam. This mainly involves DNS configurations on the sender's side that need correction, such as SPF or forward/reverse DNS. In such cases, a non-spam report to Barracuda or whitelisting the sender will have no effect. We are happy to check this for you via a support request by email. If the incorrect classification as (non-)spam cannot be technically explained, the option remains to report the incorrect classification to Barracuda to help improve the MXFilter's learning.
